CTVA 495AP: ADVANCED PRODUCING

Prerequisites: Grade of "C" or higher in CTVA 100 and CTVA 210; Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Theories and techniques of Advanced Creative Development and Production. Unique characteristics of the TV and Streaming Industry as they affect the art of Producing. Screening and critique of representative TV Limited Series and other narrative formats. The objective of the course is to familiarize the students with advanced principles of Creative Producing. What does it take to be a producer, how does one get started, and what on earth does one actually do? Examining all the nuts and bolts of production, such as raising money and securing permissions, finding a story and developing a script from pitching, script development, and packaging, to choosing a director, hiring actors, working with difficult executives and marketing your project. The student should be able to apply these principles in a creative manner and be responsible for forming these elements into a television production. Each student will develop a pitch proposal for a Limited Series, with a pitch deck and a summary of the storyline.
