ENGL 495MDL: MIDDLE EASTERN LIT

Preparatory: Either two lower division courses in literature, or 3 units of lower division literature and ENGL 355; Senior standing. Study of Middle Eastern literature, spanning from ancient epics and religious texts to contemporary novels, poetry, and plays. Through these writings, students will engage with complex themes such as identity, ethnicity, religious beliefs, exile, resistance, gender, colonialism, and the ongoing political and social challenges faced by the region.
