California State University, Northridge

Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Environmental psychology for Interior Design offers a framework from which we can further study the interaction between people and the spaces they inhabit. Students will learn about foundational theories and a variety of research methods for understanding human behavior, explore human responses to various types of environmental conditions, and strengthen their understanding of the impact of interior design on contemporary society. Human responses to lighting, color, space, scale, proportions, acoustics, and materials are studied, enabling the designer to create spaces and experiences that maximize user experience.
