GEOG 690J: FOUND GIS

Prerequisite: Graduate standing or instructor consent. This course is a foundation course in the history, theory and application of GIScience. Each student who successfully completes this course will have developed a working knowledge of fundamental theory in GIScience and the skills necessary to process geospatial data and conduct spatial analyses and decision-making. In this course we will focus on the concepts and procedures used in discovering and applying the spatial relationships within and among spatial phenomena. Enterprise and Open-Source Geographic Information System (GIS) software packages will be used to perform a variety of spatial analyses including vector and raster analyses. A large part of the second half of the semester will be focused on working with raster-based spatial data. Three hour lecture.
