This course will cover the various political causes and consequences of worldwide international migration. With more than 200 million people now living outside of their home countries for extended periods, migration significantly affects source, transit, and receiving countries throughout the world. This course will familiarize students with the political development and the current and future political challenges of the countries that are the largest recipients of international migrants, such as the U.S. , the Russian Federation, and Germany as well as the countries of origin with higher rates of migration like Mexico, China, India, and the Philippines. Students will review different approaches on international migration policy and, more specifically, students will analyze how governments design and implement policies that influence migration patterns and their consequences.
