Prerequisites: PSY 301 and PSY 345. Lecture focusing on how the theories, core findings, and methodologies of social psychology play out in the context of newly developed technology. The course explores the ways in which social psychology informs understanding of the impact of technology, as well as ways in which new technologies disrupt the existing knowledge base of social psychology. Topics include smartphones and other portable technology, social media, machine learning, genetic engineering, transhumanism, and artificial intelligence. Available for graduate credit with consent of student's graduate advisor. 3 hours lecture.
