COMPSTD 7320: Theorizing Race and Ethnicity

This seminar interrogates & expands on critical theories of race & ethnicity. We examine the significance of race in the modern world & dominant notions of humanity by showing the interconnected ways these processes rest on visions of hierarchy defined in ontological terms & enforced with violence-epitomized by enslavement & colonization-in the long period of white, especially Western, domination.
