MATH 143C: Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing

Development and comparison of important algorithms for scientific computing in terms of efficiency, accuracy and reliability. Topics include nonlinear equations, interpolation, approximation theory, differentiation, integration, differential equations, numerical stability and error analysis. Substantial assignments using contemporary software packages and professional subprogram libraries. Prerequisite(s): MATH 32; one of CS 22A, CS 46A, CS 49C, CS 49J or MATH 50; and one of MATH 33A, MATH 33LA, or MATH 34 (with a grade of "C-" or better in each). Or instructor consent. Allowed Declared Major: Mathematics major/minor or Computer Science.
