Mechanical design process. Introduction to linkages and kinematic pairs. Synthesis of mechanisms using the graphical and analytical approaches. Analysis of mechanisms: position, velocity, acceleration, and force. Stress analysis under combined loads, principal stresses, and stress concentration. Strain and deflection. Column design. Failure theories for static loads. Introduction to fatigue failure. Prerequisite(s): ME 101, ME 20, CE 112, MATE 25, all with a C- or better. Junior or senior standing.
