Survey of the flora, distribution, and ecology of California ecosystems, including Mediterranean shrubland, conifer forests, desert scrub, valley for fields, and exotic grasslands. Discusses vegetation in relation to climate, physiography, fire, landscape steady states, biological invasions, paleobotany, and broad-scale change due to land development, invasive species, grazing, and fire suppression.
