This course recognizes the emotional effects of oppression. Recently, more attention shows how systemic mistreatment of people affects the social and economic wellbeing of communities (both systematically targeted by racism a nd colonization and those enforcing these systems). We will practice, refle ct, discuss, and explore what healing from oppression looks like. We explor e the emotional dimensions of oppression and justice while being aware that the history of injustice is full of intense emotions. How do we connect th e personal, academic, and political experience of living and researching th rough these experiences? How do we analyze and heal the effects of injustic e and mistreatment and support our academic practice and activist work?
