ANTH 197ER: SENSORY ECOLOGIES

This seminar critically examines how sensory experiences mediate various ki nds of relationships, including between humans, nonhumans, and environments . Drawing from anthropology, science and technology studies (STS), environm ental humanities, art theory and practice, and sensory ethnography, the cou rse explores how ecologies are lived, perceived, created, and contested thr ough embodied practice. We will analyze how sensory regimes are shaped by p ower hierarchies, labor, infrastructures, and histories, and how they infor m knowledge production, governance, resistance, refusal, and creative endea vors. Students will engage multimodal methods to investigate how ecological relations, broadly conceived, are felt, negotiated, and made meaningful.
