ANTH 197IL: INDIGENOUS LAWS

In this seminar, students take part in the research design of a survey rese arch project in collaboration with an Organization of Indigenous Lawyers in Oaxaca. We analyze the interviews and fieldnotes of research conducted du ring June 2025 in Oaxaca, with indigenous authorities and other state autho rities. In the class, students learn about the legal system in Mexico, Indi genous Customary Law, the discrimination faced by indigenous people in the legal system, and conflict resolution. Along with text analysis, coding and survey design.
