ECON 278H: ATTENTN & PERCPTION
University of California, Santa Barbara
Individuals face limitations in their ability to process all relevant infor mation and they are very sensitive to the way this information is framed. A growing literature on attention and perception in economics, psychology, a nd neuroscience has documented these "bounds" and "biases" and has begun to incorporate them into alternative models of decision-making and strategic interaction. This course reviews the evidence (from the lab and field) on i ndividual departures from the standard economic paradigm, analyzes these ph enomena with rigorous formal models, and discusses how these biases impact markets and allocations.
