EEMB 595RS: SWOT AQUATIC RS

University of California, Santa Barbara

In this course, we review papers coming out from the new Surface Water and Ocean Topography Mission (SWOT) launched in December 2022. SWOT uses radar interferometry to observe sub-mesoscale eddies and small motion features on the ocean as well as water surface heights and extents from inland water b odies (lakes, wetlands, and rivers) on a global scale. Graduate students wi ll learn about the new satellite technology, what the data is best used for , how to download the datafiles from publicly available databases, and how to apply it to their research. This course is meant to benefit both those a ctively using remote sensing in their work and those who are curious if the y can use this data for their research.
