ESM 254: FISHERIES MANAGEMNT

Examines the science of fisheries conservation for management. Most of the world’s fisheries are small-scale and data-limited, executed without much s upport from local governments. Students will explore theory and learn techn iques to manage small-scale, data-limited marine fisheries, receiving train ing necessary for practitioners able to organize communities, conduct quant itative assessments, and assist in implementing sustainable fisheries pract ices and related institutions. These objectives will be met mainly by learn ing the Length-Based Spawning Ratio (LBSPR) process, a life-history based a pproach that includes aspects of fish ecology, physiology, population dynam ic modeling, and social science, especially Change Management.
