FAMST 166GX: GEN/SEXUALITY FILM

A survey of gender and sexuality in film that traverses the onscreen and in dustrial representation of configurations of both gender and sexuality thro ughout history and transnationally. Along with film theory informed by femi nist, queer, and critical race studies, topics may include the male gaze, t he monstrous feminine, female subjectivity, the oppositional gaze, New Quee r Cinema, industry inequities, and female and/or queer filmmakers. Each wee k, students will attend lecture and screening to become familiar with femin ist and queer critical analytical tools to augment film analysis related to the many permutations of gender and sexuality articulated in film from ear ly cinema to the present.
