FAMST 190WG: WOMEN,WORK&GAMBLING
University of California, Santa Barbara
This rigorous, interdisciplinary seminar examines contemporary gaming, gamb ling, and digital media platforms. In this course we ask: How are entertai nment and work shaped by capitalism and mediated by digital platforms? Who works and plays on digital platforms? How does digital media change, distor t, warp, or adapt our work lives and leisure time? Drawing from texts in fe minist studies, history, sociology, critical theory, gaming and gambling st udies, political economy, and film theory, students will develop a high-qua lity, well-argued, original final paper throughout the quarter. Students wi ll closely engage with course texts and fellow classmates’ written work in writing workshops.
