This seminar offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the diverse musica l landscapes of Latin America. Through genres such as Cumbia, Tango, Norteñ o, Son Jarocho, Tex-Mex, Salsa, Reggaeton, Samba, Brazilian Funk, and Bossa Nova, students explore how music shapes identity and drives social, politi cal, and economic change. Emphasizing critical listening, cultural literacy , and collaborative learning, the course engages students with primary sour ces including historical recordings, documentary films, and musical ethnogr aphic texts.
