In this Discovery Seminar, we investigate how expressive communication in m usic and language can be heightened even as meaning becomes elusive through post structural and deconstructive theories. We examine manipulations of s ound and language to discover how innovative compositions can elicit exciti ng interpretive possibilities. After an introduction to post-structural the ories, we explore how musicians and poets engage with defeminization. The s eminar culminates in original student works engaging with sound, language, and signification in unique ways. Students of all disciplines are welcome!
