MCDB 194SM: SYSTEMS MEDICINE

University of California, Santa Barbara

Explores systems medicine through computational modeling of physiological c ircuits. Students will develop Python simulations to understand hormone cir cuits, immune system behavior, and aging processes. Combines theoretical fo undations with hands-on modeling exercises to examine how diseases emerge f rom circuit fragilities. Through mathematical modeling and computational an alysis, students will investigate complex physiological systems and learn d isease classification based on signaling topology. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and applied computational skills while exploring how feedback, robustness, and emergent behaviors influence health and disease.
