PHYS 186: ATOMIC PHYSICS
University of California, Santa Barbara
An introduction to atomic physics. Covers basic atomic structure of one an d two valence electron atoms, the Zeeman effect, and the semiclassical trea tment of atoms interacting with near-resonant light. We also discuss laser cooling and trapping, as well as selected advanced topics such as atomic c locks, trapped ion dynamics, and the application of atoms in quantum inform ation science.
