ANTH 110J

Humans and Climate

5credits
About this course

Our species has been shaped by its encounters with changing ecologies and climates, from the evolution of early hominins to our present day struggles with wildfires, heat waves, and sea level rise. In this course students learn the main physical causes of climate change, and the concepts and methods through which physical, biological, and cultural anthropologists have come to understand the effects of climate change upon human beings and the effects of humans upon global climate and the biosphere. Students move from human evolutionary history, through archeological and historical accounts of social responses to climate change, to contemporary climate change response.
