BIOL 280O: Translation Reg. RNA

University of California, Santa Cruz

Weekly seminar and group discussion on current topics in the study of RNA structures that influence translation in eukaryotic systems. Students present, review, and discuss relevant research pertaining but not limited to RNA structure-function relationships, mechanisms underlying alternative or non-canonical modes of translation initiation, methods of macromolecular structure determination, recapitulation of eukaryotic translation in cell-free systems, and computational homology-based search methods for widespread viral RNA structures. In addition to presenting and discussing published research, students present their own independent research and receive feedback. May be repeated for credit.
