CHIN 80: Chinese for Traveling

For individuals with little or no prior knowledge of Chinese culture and language. Taught primarily in English, the course introduces cultural and linguistic aspects of travel discourse in Mandarin-speaking regions (including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore), presented in English. The target audience is students who plan to study abroad or are interested in Chinese culture knowledge and wish to learn a few phrases in Chinese Mandarin. The curriculum introduces a basic Chinese Alphabet spelling system (pinyin) and popular travel and social topics. May be repeated for credit.
