CRES 19

Intelligence

5credits
About this course

What is intelligence? What does it mean to be intelligent? How has intelligence become such an important, politicized, and contested notion in our society? This class covers a wide range of topics related to intelligence, particularly the political ramifications of debates on intelligence. Topics include meritocracy; technocracy; IQ; non-human intelligence; work and education; science and expertise; anti-intellectualism; racism, classism, sexism and intelligence; and artificial intelligence (AI). Students learn how to thoughtfully discern and uphold their own definition of intelligence and the specific values informing their view of intelligence—an exercise that will help guide their thinking and values for years to come.
