ENVS 107B: Nat Hist Field Qtr
University of California, Santa Cruz
Intensive 20-credit course with multiweek field trips. Students apply naturalist skills to scientific inquiry, ecosystem management, and communication, and cultivate leadership and professional skills for outdoor careers. ENVS 107B focuses on wildlife found in terrestrial and aquatic habitats of CA, including vertebrates and invertebrates. Students learn to identify wildlife by sight, sound, tracks, and sign, gaining expertise with field guides, dichotomous keys, and field equipment. Students keep a professional field journal and use direct observations, live-trapping methods, and scientific inquiry to expand their knowledge of animal behavior, life history, ecology, and taxonomy. Prerequisite(s): concurrent enrollment in ENVS 107A, 107C, and 107D. Course is open to all majors, but ENVS majors must also have previously enrolled in ENVS 100 and ENVS 100L.
