HAVC 190Z

Planetary Art History

About this course

How do artists imagine worlds beyond borders, disciplines, and fixed ways of seeing? This advanced seminar explores art history and visual culture through the relations that connect artworks to the worlds around them. Students think—with the planet, not as an abstract globe, but as a living field of connection shaped by movement, materiality, and place. Following how images, objects, and ideas travel across scales, the course asks how visual culture can make these relations perceptible while remaining accountable to the lands and histories from which they emerge.
