AAHP 3705: Honors Seminar in Art and Art History

Concentrated, indepth study of a selected topic in the history, theory, and/or practice of art.� Topics and course content vary according to the interests and expertise of the faculty; however, the information and requirements are accessible to an interdisciplinary range of students from within and beyond the College of Arts + Architecture. Section information text: The Role of Industrial Ceramics for Domestic Use in Global Societies The course will include lectures about the history of ceramics, discussions about how ceramics were a material used to illustrate a culture's social practices and political structures, and how the production of ceramic objects has changed the value system of the material. Students will research historical ceramic manufacturers/factories and compare the quality and quantity of ceramic objects in today’s market sold in home décor retailers such as T-Maxx, Crate and Barrel, and Anthropologie. Students will work in teams to conceptualize a commercial ceramic object that would be considered for mass production.
