BIOL 5261: Genome Stability and Human Disease

DNA damage arises from environmental and endogenous insults, and a variety of specialized cellular mechanisms enable the efficient and accurate repair of lesions. When repair processes are impaired, substantial developmental defects and predisposition to cancer may result. This course introduces students to the principal DNA repair pathways and the diseases induced by inherited repair defects, with an emphasis on interpreting primary research. The aim of this course is to build on students' basic knowledge of biological principles to provide in-depth knowledge regarding the relationship between DNA repair dysfunction and genetic diseases, including certain cancers.�
