CTCM 2530: Interdisciplinary Critical Thinking and Communication (AFRS)

Part of an integrated First-Year Writing and Theme curriculum that develops critical thinking and communication competency. Students undertake an interdisciplinary inquiry process and build towards the preparation of a polished product at the end of the semester. The specific subject matter for sections of this course vary since the focus is on developing competencies.�May not be taken for credit and for a grade if credit has been received for LBST 2301. Section information text: This CTCM 2530 (AFRS) interdisciplinary critical thinking course is an integrated First-Year Writing and Liberal Studies curriculum that develops critical thinking and communication skills. The specific topic for this section is “Environmental Literature of Gender and Race.” Students will develop an understanding of how to use ecocritical and ecofeminist literature to think about gender, sexuality, race, and class. In particular, the course will emphasize how the environment shapes gender identities and the ways in which environmental literature represents the experiences of African, Caribbean, and Afro-Latin American women. The course will provide students with analytical tools on how to think about some of the ongoing problems of gender, class, and race in relation to the natural environment.
