ENGL 1502: Global Arts/Humanities: Intercultural Communication

Introduction to a range of oral, written, printed, visual, and/or digital texts from global communities and cultures, paying attention especially to language, diverse perspectives, modes of creation, and/or pedagogical approaches. Section information text: This course focuses on language and intercultural communication. In this course, the notion of “global” will be explored by considering many of the norms and practices expressed in the interactions of members of other (national) cultures. That said, one aim of the course is to explore the concept of culture itself. In grappling with the slippery concept of culture and in considering how it is expressed in communication practices, students will need to consider how they themselves are cultural beings and to reflect on the cultural norms and practices (re)produced in their interactions.
