HIST 3000: Topics in US History: Murder in American History

Examination of a topic in U.S. History. Section information text: When we discuss the idea of American exceptionalism, we rarely think about violence. However, the United States has a murder rate more than four times higher than the United Kingdom and Germany, and almost three times higher than Canada. Murders often generate large amounts of documentary evidence, historians can use to understand violence and its role in American History. In this class, we will examine particular murder cases and students will learn how to use this evidence to operate as historical detectives.
