HIST 4600: Senior Research Seminar: The History of the "Military-Industrial Complex"

A research seminar designed around a specific topic or theme, requiring reading, analysis, discussion, peer review, and a substantial paper. Section information text: This is an upper-level undergraduate research seminar, focused on the subject of the so-called military-industrial complex. Although this phrase was coined by President Eisenhower in 1961, at the height of the Cold War, we will consider the longer-run history of military-industrial relations, including more recent developments. Students will research a topic related to the course theme (but which need not focus on the 20th century or the USA) and write a substantial original research paper with multiple drafts. This class emphasizes critical approaches to historiography, research methods, and writing skills. This is a writing-intensive course, designed to enhance the reading, writing and discussion skills of advanced History majors. It will also teach you how to do original historical research and use this research to write a substantial paper (15-20 pages). HISTORY MAJORS ONLY. Must have completed HIST 4000/1/2/3/4 with C or higher to receive credit for this course.
