HSMT 3000: Special Topics: Patient Experience

Discussion of current and emerging topics in the field of health. Section information text: Examines Patient Experience as an integrated framework spanning healthcare operations, patient safety, clinical quality, and organizational efficiency. Topics include patient flow and environmental design, safety culture and communication, quality improvement methodology, value-based purchasing and CMS reimbursement, and patient journey mapping across inpatient, emergency department, and ambulatory care settings. Students apply course concepts through a cumulative visual project analyzing Patient Experience within a selected healthcare setting. Peer-reviewed literature, case studies, and industry frameworks are used throughout the course.
