READ 6248: Literacy Science and the Reading Brain

How does literacy develop in the brain and mind, and why do these matter for effective literacy instruction? This course draws on the vast interdisciplinary body of scientific research on literacy development and instruction, such as cognitive science, developmental science, education, linguistics, neuroscience, and psychology, to provide a foundation for understanding literacy science and the reading brain, with particular applications for effective, research-based instruction to meet the needs of a variety of literacy learners.
