THEA 1502: Global Arts/Humanities: Theatre in Global Contexts: World Fashion History

All Global Theme courses explore the central, unifying question of what it means to be a citizen of the world. Through the study of one or more different peoples, societies or cultures across the globe, students will be able to better understand themselves as part of a complex, interconnected world. This interdisciplinary course considers how various forms reflect traditions from around the world. It explores theatre's evolution within a dynamic sociopolitical global framework through lecture, discussion, film/video and performance.�May not be taken for credit and for a grade if credit has been received for LBST 1104. Section information text: THEA 1502: World Fashion History Before Instagram, before runways, before fast fashion — humans have always used clothing to say this is who I am. This course traces the history of fashion from the earliest human civilizations to today, exploring how dress across Asia, Africa, and the Western world has been a tool for power, protest, identity, and reinvention. We'll examine how silhouettes shift, how trade routes and technology transform what people wear, and how global connection — ancient and modern — means that fashion has never belonged to just one culture. If you've ever gotten dressed in the morning and made a choice, this class is for you.
