WRDS 2100: Introduction to Digital Studies in Writing
University of North Carolina, Charlotte
A survey of "digital studies" from both theoretical and practical perspectives, providing students with a broad intellectual framework for understanding how digital platforms, tools, and networks have evolved to shape composition processes and alter the writer-audience dynamic. Students will practice composing across digital modes while developing a more sophisticated understanding of the rhetorical processes of reading and writing in digital spaces and honing their abilities to participate more effectively as writers in those spaces. Major topics can include generative AI and Large Language Models; digital genres such as filmmaking and podcasting; digital publishing like web design, blogging, and self-publication; and the digital ethics around accessibility, algorithms, remix culture, and digital privacy.
