Neurobiology, psychology, and social sciences study systems that are inhere ntly complex and can't be broken down into simple parts without losing the systems' key properties. New approaches based on complexity theory have rev ealed that the structure and behavior of such systems are often based on su rprisingly simple rules. Interestingly, our brain has virtually no intuitio n for this hidden simplicity. The course combines basic theory and hands-on computer modeling to build a deeper understanding for these systems. While no prior computer programming experience is required, students are expecte d to develop coding skills as part of the course.
