DANC 2226: Vernacular Jazz Dance

Traces the development of jazz dance from folk beginnings to the present.�Explores vernacular jazz dance based in African/African-American roots as well as the contemporary or applied aspects of jazz dance.� Students will examine the role that vernacular dance and music play in the creation of jazz dance, as well as exploring European influence on African and Latin-based diasporic dances.� Includes improvisation, center work, and performance techniques.
