POLS 3030: Topics-Comp or Intl Politics: Law and Economics
University of North Carolina, Charlotte
An intensive study of a topic in comparative or international politics. Section information text: Ever wondered why we have nutrition labels on all your food and your phone apps require you to read a hundred pages of fine print? What about why North Carolina has a contributory negligence tort system of liability and almost every other state doesn’t – but more importantly what difference that makes? Do you know how the American property rights system(s) have facilitated our national economic success? Would you be interested in how the law tries to keep business competitors from cooperating against consumers to raise their profits? What about how statistics can explain why lawyers strike jurors and how effective the death penalty is as a deterrent? If so, law and economics is the class that can provide some answers to these questions.
