CHAD 196: Sustainable Futures for Children and Families in the AI Era

Experimental course will invite students to examine the potential challenges and possibilities introduced by generative AI for child and family well-being using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a lens for considering the potential influences of AI and AI practices on healthy environments for children and families. Students will practice using sustainability, human-computer interaction, and developmental science frameworks to a) identify persistent contextual challenges to child and family well-being, b) analyze the role of AI in exacerbating and/or addressing those challenges, and c) engage in project based learning to propose recommendations for evidence based and ethical improvements, innovations, and/or policies to promote healthy environments for children and families. Upper division standing recommended. High Impact Practice: Collaborative Assignments and Projects.
